ODU Field Hockey battles Georgetown and JMU

The Old Dominion Field Hockey team (6-4) will continue BIG EAST Conference play Thursday when they travel to College Park, Maryland to take on Georgetown (3-7). The Monarchs will return to Norfolk to battle James Madison (8-2) on Sunday.

NORFOLK, VA. - The Old Dominion Field Hockey team (6-4) will continue BIG EAST Conference play Thursday when they travel to College Park, Maryland to take on Georgetown (3-7). The Monarchs will return to Norfolk to battle James Madison (8-2) on Sunday.

In the last meeting against Georgetown, ODU scored a minute and a half into the game through Sanci Molkenboer. The Monarchs scored four more goals to make it five by the end of the third period, winning 5-0 in Norfolk.

In the last meeting against JMU, Old Dominion won 3-0. Jolene Ulichney scored five minutes into the first period. Marlon De Bruijne found the back of the cage in the second and third quarter to secure the victory.

Both games will have live stats. The game against Georgetown will be streamed on HoosiersTV and the game against JMU will be streamed on ODUSports.com.

ABOUT ODU:

Old Dominion is coming off an 8-1 win vs Providence which saw Sian Emslie score a hat trick, Tess Jedeloo scored two goals and recorded an assist, Frederique Zandbergen scored one goal and recorded four assists, Amelie Zielcke scored her first goal as a Monarch and found the back of the cage a second time as well.

Zandbergen and Jedeloo are tied for the team in points with 19 each. With Zandbergen leading the team in assists (11) and Jedeloo leading the team in goals scored (9). Emslie ranks third with 14 points and is the team's second leading scorer with six goals. Defender Serena Langedoen has scored five goals and has recorded one assist for 11 points.

Looking at the BIG EAST Conference statistical leaderboard, Old Dominion ranks first in the BIG EAST goals allowed per game (1.10), and is tied for first in goals off penalty corners (14) despite being ranked third for total penalty corners (81). ODU also ranks second in scoring margin (2.38) and scoring average (3.62).

Suus Broers has started all 10 games in goal, logging 543 minutes and recording 30 saves. She ranks second in the BIG EAST with a 1.42 goals against average.

ABOUT Georgetown:

The Hoyas are coming off a 2-1 loss at the hands of Sacred Heart. Sitting at 3-7 on the year, their last win came against Quinnipiac during BIG EAST Conference play. Georgetown is led by Sophie Towne with eight points on three goals and two assists. Ranking second on the team in points is Sydney Yodh with six on two goals and two assists.

Ella Fahey has started seven games in goal, logging 415 minutes and recording 58 saves. Bailey Tietz has started three games in goal, logging 187 minutes and recording 17 saves. Georgetown ranks first in the BIG EAST in saves per game (8.10) and second in total saves (81).

Georgetown Head Coach Christy Longacre Banks played collegiately at Old Dominion and was recently inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame.

ABOUT JMU:

James Madison is currently on a four-game win streak, having most recently defeated Richmond 2-1. JMU is led by Alice Roeper with 17 points from seven goals and three assists. Ranking second on the team is Samantha Strittmatter with 13 points from five goals and three assists.

Molly Schreiner has started all 10 games in goal, logging 540 minutes and recording 32 saves.

Old Dominion will be back in Norfolk to take on Villanova in BIG EAST Conference play on October 18, 3 p.m.
