NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team will be on the home courts of the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center starting on Thursday morning as hosts of the ITA Atlantic Regionals.
“What a special thing to host the ITA Regionals on our own courts. Regionals are always the highlight of the fall with all the best teams in your region competing, and with the new NCAA pathway, it’s a qualifying tournament into the NCAA Individual tournament. The weather looks great all weekend and we are excited to host all the schools from Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Super happy for our guys to play at home,” said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
The event runs through Monday, October 14 and now serves as one of four qualifying pathways to the NCAA Individual Championships which will be held for the first time in the fall on November 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
The tournament begins on Thursday morning with the qualifying rounds of singles starting at 8:30 a.m. Main draw singles and doubles starts on Friday with the finals set for Monday.
Participating teams include George Mason, Georgetown, Hampton, Howard, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Loyola (MD), Morgan State, Mt. St. Mary’s, Norfolk State, Radford, Navy, Richmond, Virginia, VCU, Virginia Tech, and William & Mary will join the Monarchs.
The ITA All-American Championships now serves as one of four qualifying pathways to the NCAA Individual Championships which will be held now in the fall season for the first time on November 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
From the ITA Atlantic Regional, the two singles finalists and the doubles champion will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Individual Championships.
