NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion Rowing team will open its fall season on Sunday when the team will head down to compete in the High Point Rowing Festival in High Point, North Carolina.
ODU Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ were invited to come race by the High Point local rowing club that organizes the regatta. ODU will race as part of the Lenny Peters Cup against International teams. The teams this year are the Oxford University Lightweights from London, England and the Ukrainian National Team. We will also race against High Point University as part of this event.
The festival will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the final race will be at 2:20 p.m.
“This weekend is a great opportunity for ODU to get their name out there in a different way with racing against a couple of international teams. It is also a good preparation race for the Head of the Charles. We are only bringing the top two boats from the program to this regatta so it will help facilitate what the line-up will be at the Head of the Charles in a couple of weeks.” said Rowing Head Coach Brian Conley
“The team returned to campus this year in better shape than we have in the past and the athletes are eager to start working towards their goals. It will definitely be a challenge of a couple of races, but we have talked about the fact that challenging things are what helps us grow and so we are welcoming the challenges this year.” added Conley
