JONESBORO, Ark. – Emma Riles was on the receiving end of a pass from Zoie Kempf in front of the net at 77:07 for the eventual game-winning goal as Arkansas State knocked off Old Dominion 1-0 in a Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

“Congrats to Arkansas State – they were tougher, competed harder and individually just had more to their play today. Forget stats, they mean nothing if you aren’t able to turn them into something. We speak always about everything starting with performance and sadly today with how we competed, we got fully what we deserved,” said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind.

Old Dominion (9-5-3, 4-2-3) controlled the action for most of the day as they held a 22-6 advantage in shots. The Monarchs recorded five of the six corner kick chances called in the contest, but goalie Damaris Deschaine came up with eight saves in the match to snuff out any ODU chance.

Arkansas State (4-6-5, 1-5-3) had a burst that resulted in Kempf sending a crossing pass in front of the net that found its way to the feet of Riles who popped it into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

The Monarchs now head to App State on Thursday night for their final match of the regular season. Both teams have earned bids to the Sun Belt Tournament starting November 4 in Foley, Alabama.
