NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team will finish a three-match road swing on Wednesday night visiting Coastal Carolina for a 7 p.m. kick.

This game will have live stats and be streamed on ESPN+.

The Monarchs scored three goals in a 19-minute span of the first half last season and defeated Coastal Carolina 3-1 on September 30, 2023. William Arnesen scored at the 2:05 mark, Michael Eberle at 6:06 and Jonas Schmalbach at 21:32 as ODU jumped out to a fast 3-0 lead.

ODU (4-6-2, 0-4-1) comes in after a 2-0 loss at UCF on Friday night, while Coastal Carolina (3-7-2, 1-2-2) tied third-ranked Marshall 0-0 also on Friday at home.

Through 12 matches, Key White leads the team in points with eight and assists with four to go with his two goals. Michael Eberle leads in goals scored with three and is second in points with seven.  Timothy Ennin has two goals and two assists for six points, while William Arnesen has two goals and one assist for five points. Lewis Redding trails White in assists as he has three.

White is tied for third in the league in assists with four and tied for sixth in assists per game (0.33).

In the net, Michael Statham has four clean sheets, a save percentage of .780, and a goals-against average of 1.08 through 12 starts matches. He is second in saves per game (3.83), tied for third in shutouts (4) and third in save percentage (.780) in the Sun Belt.

The four goals in the win at George Washington were the most in a season opener since 2011 in a 6-0 win over Houston Baptist in a tournament at West Virginia.

The Monarchs are home for two of their last three matches as they’ll host South Carolina on Sunday and JMU on November 5. In between, they’ll visit Georgia Southern on November 1.

Tennant McVea takes over as head coach of the Monarchs from long-time coach Alan Dawson who retired at the end of the 2023 season. He had served on the staff for seven years, including being on the Conference USA winning staff in 2014.

Eberle was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on September 17 after a pair of game-winning goals against William & Mary and previously undefeated George Mason.

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA

The Chanticleers enter the match undefeated in their last three with a win over Campbell (1-0) and then consecutive scoreless ties with eighth-ranked JMU and third-ranked Marshall.

Doug Hainer and Evan Howard lead Coastal Carolina in goals scored with three and share the lead in points with seven. Those two have combined for six of the nine goals scored by the Chanticleers this season as they’ve been outscored 20-9.

In the net, Harrison Grough has started the last three matches and sports a clean save percentage stopping 19 shots in three contests.
