LEXINGTON, Ky. – Logan Dorsey was on the receiving end of a touch pass from Marqes Muir at 64:31 which proved to be the lone goal of the night as Kentucky defeated Old Dominion 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference Men’s Soccer action on Friday.
“Very disappointing result tonight. We’ve been the better team again tonight and haven’t found a way to get the business done in the final third. We have to find ways to turn performances into results. The players know that,” said ODU Head Coach Tennant McVea.
Kentucky forced consecutive corner kicks nearly 20 minutes into the second half and found the back of the net as the ball was sent in and Muir was able to spot Dorsey who gave the hosts the 1-0 advantage with a blast off his left foot.
ODU (4-5-2, 0-3-1) held a good chunk of the possession in the opening half and had several opportunities that either went wide or high. Each team fired off six shots in the first half.
The Monarchs got the first shot on goal in the second half as Nicholas Alves tried to blast one into the lower left corner, but Kentucky goalie Ryan Jack made what turned out to be his only save of the night.
In the game, Kentucky held a 14-10 advantage in shots and 6-1 in shots on goal. ODU did double the Wildcats in corner kicks with a 10-5 margin.
The Monarchs continue their three-match road swing on Friday, October 18 when they face UCF in Orlando, Florida.
