COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Old Dominion Field Hockey team found the back of the net early and never looked back in a 5-0 win in Maryland against Georgetown. The win brings ODU to 7-4, 3-1 in BIG EAST Conference play this season.

“We had a very solid performance today and created a lot of chances throughout the game. It’s another Big East win in the books for us, so another important step in our season.” Said ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths

The Monarchs scored in the first quarter through Sian Emslie off of an assist from Amelie Zielcke. ODU scored again in the second quarter, this time from Serena Langendoen off a penalty corner assisted by Frederique Zandbergen and Rina Tsioles to put the Monarchs up by two at halftime.

In the fourth, Tess Jedeloo scored early off a penalty corner assisted by Zandbergen for her 10th goal of the season to put ODU up by three. Emslie found the back of the net again midway in the fourth quarter off an assist from Jedeloo to make it four. Jolene Ulichney continued the fourth quarter onslaught, scoring off an assist from Tsioles with less than five minutes remaining for ODU’s fifth and final goal of the game.

“Georgetown play tough and are a determined team, so it was excellent that we didn’t give up a single shot or corner in the game.” said Griffiths

ODU’s defense held the Hoyas without a shot for the game. The Monarchs had 20 penalty corners, 22 shots, and 13 shots on goal.

“It was a real team performance, with hard work and combination play creating many corners and circle penetrations. It's a very positive sign also to get goals from four different players. ” Griffiths added

Suus Broers played 60 minutes in goal, securing the victory. Georgetown’s Ella Fahey played 60 minutes in goal and recorded 8 saves.

“We will use tomorrow to recover and then prepare for our Royal Rivalry game with JMU on Sunday.” said Griffiths

ODU will next be in action on Sunday, October 13 when they take on James Madison in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry at the LR Hill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Va. at 1 p.m.
