NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion women's tennis junior Sofia Johnson was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Johnson had two wins in ODU's season opening 4-3 loss at Florida State on January 16. She and doubles partner Lidiia Rasskouskaia evened the doubles portion with a 6-3 win at No. 1 as the Monarchs eventually won the doubles point. In singles, Johnson rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to take a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) win over Vic Allen at No. 1.
The Monarchs next see action on Saturday in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament taking on Iowa State in Ames, Iowa at 3:00 p.m. EST.
