NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion University Football safety Jahron Manning was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
In his home game debut, Manning recorded 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and two interceptions. His first interception came in the second quarter, which he returned 45 yards to set up a Monarch touchdown. His second pick of the day came in the fourth quarter and thwarted an ECU drive with an interception in the end zone.
Manning became the first Monarch since Christian Byrum in 2014 to record two interceptions in one game, tying the ODU’s single-game record also held by Eriq Lewis who also had two interceptions against William & Mary in 2011.
A native of New Orleans, Manning is third on the squad with 17 tackles and has 1.5 tackles for loss to go along with his two interceptions.
Manning and the Monarchs host Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
