Old Dominion conceded their only goal of the game from a penalty stroke that was scored by Pyper Friedman. Shortly after, Sian Emslie found the back of the net late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 4-1.
ODU finished the game with 22 shots, 15 on goal, and nine penalty corners. Frederique Zandbergen, Rina Tsioles, and Sanci Molkenboer all registered an assist in the Monarchs winning effort.
Suus Broers played the full 60:00 minutes in goal, making one save, and secured her fourth win of the season.
Head Coach Andrew Griffiths provided the following quote following the victory:
“We played well again today and controlled the flow of the game, the shooting stats tell the story in many ways. We passed the ball nicely across the field, stretched the field and created plenty of opportunities from this play.”
“I was happy with how we adjusted and had to manage the officiating, that was a good learning experience for us. William and Mary are also well coached and play a good style of hockey, and build the ball nicely with smart passing patterns. We adapted well defensively and really limited them to a few circle entries.”
“With our first four games on the road, it will be nice to play some home games next weekend.”
“Looking forward to our home opener Friday on our new field! We will also welcome back a lot of alumni and celebrate the hockey career and life of Maaike Hilbrand on Sunday.”
ODU field hockey will next be in action on Friday, September 13, where they will face off against Duke in Norfolk at 5 p.m.
