Norfolk, Va.- ODU Field Hockey will look to bounce back from losses to Duke and Ohio State when they take on the Liberty Flames on Friday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. in the BIG EAST Conference opener.

In the last meeting between the two sides the Monarchs defeated the Flames in the BIG EAST Championship game 3-1. Frederique Zandbergen came up big in the game with one goal and two assists. Old Dominion conceded the first goal but scored the next three.

ABOUT ODU:

ODU comes into this match having lost two straight, but won its first four games to start the year. The Monarchs are led at the front by Tess Jedeloo with seven goals and Frederique Zandbergen with three goals and four assists. At the back ODU has BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year in Suus Broers along with newcomers Serena Langendoen and Amelie Zielke. The two freshmen have started all six games so far for the Monarchs and played a big role in the team’s defensive success to begin the season.

Broers has started all six games in goal, logging 300 minutes in goal and has 12 saves.

ABOUT LIBERTY:

Liberty went 2-0 over the weekend. The Flames bear William & Mary, 5-1, and handed #4 Duke a 1-0 loss bringing their record this season to 4-1.

The team’s leading scorer this season is Martu Cian with four goals. Lou Combrick is second on the roster with two goals and two assists. 

Michaela Skinner has started every game in goal, registering 315:27 in goal, recording 14 saves.

Old Dominion will next be in action on Friday, September 27 at Temple.
