NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University Football brings Virginia Tech to Norfolk for the third time ever as the Monarchs and Hokies are set to kick off on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Chip Tarkenton and Andy Mashaw on the call, while Ted Alexander and James Witham have the action on ESPN Radio 94.1
• ODU won the previous two meetings, 49-35 in 2018 and 20-17 in 2022. The home team has won all five games in the series. Virginia Tech leads the series 3-2.
• ODU lost its second-straight one-score game to start the season, 20-14 to East Carolina. Jahron Manning interception two passes as ODU picked off ECU four times tying a single-game school record. Patrick Smith-Young and Will Jones also intercepted passed.
• For ODU, 14-of-its-last 16 games have been decided by one score.
• Virginia Tech defeated Marshall last week, 31-14 in Blacksburg.
• Linebackers Koa Naotala and Mario Thompson registered double-digit tackles against ECU, as did safety Jahron Manning. Naotala had a game-high and career-best 18 tackles, while Thompson had a career-best 12 stops and Manning a career-high 10 tackles.
• Patrick Smith-Young and Will Jones also had interceptions for the Monarchs.
TD Streak Continues
With his 44-yard touchdown strike to Kelby Williams. Grant Wilson has thrown at least one touchdown pass in nine-straight games. The streak began in last year’s Week seven win over App State.
Wilson completed 20-of-34 passes for 192 yards a touchdown and interception against East Carolina.
Interceptions Galore
ODU tied the single-game record for interceptions in a game with four last week against East Carolina. Three game in the first half. Jahron Manning had two, one in the second and fourth quarters, while Patrick Smith-Young and Will Jones had one each.
ODU last had four interceptions in a game in the 2022 win over Virginia Tech.

Jahron For Two
Jahron Manning notched his first two career interceptions as a Monarch against ECU. He became the first ODU player since Christian Byrum in 2014 to record two interceptions in one game.

Hard Nosed Running
Aaron Young carried 25 times for 83 yards and a touchdown against ECU. Fifty-five of his 83 yards came in the second half. The 25 carries for 83 yards was a career-high. His previous highs were 13 carries for 67 yards.
Vines and Alston
Diante Vines and Myles Alston recorded and tied their career-highs, respectively, for the second-straight week.
Vines caught six passes for 64 yards and Alston had five receptions for 38 yards.
Vines set his career best last week with four catches before his six receptions this week.
Alston did not have a catch before his five receptions last week at South Carolina and ECU.
Culbreath and Drummer
Jahleel Culbreath started his second-straight game and totaled six tackles, while Ja’Mez Drummer notched a career-high six tackles against East Carolina.
Big Play Knight
A week after blocking a punt, safety Markus Knight broke up a pass that Jahron Manning picked off a pass that set up ODU’s first touchdown against East Carolina.
Knight continues to make big plays for ODU. He had team-best two interceptions last season and blocked a kick. He already has a blocked punt and pass breakup this season.
Big Play Williams
Kelby Williams’ 44-yard touchdown was the third touchdown catch of his career and his longest career touchdown. All three touchdowns were 30+ yards. He had a 37-yard touchdown catch last year in week two against Louisiana and a 30-yard score against Coastal Carolina.
