ODU Travels to New York to Take on Hofstra

Old Dominion Field Hockey will look to continue its winning ways this Sunday when the team travels to Hempstead, New York to take on the Hofstra Field Hockey team.

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion Field Hockey will look to continue its winning ways this Sunday when the team travels to Hempstead, New York to take on the Hofstra Field Hockey team. 

 

The game will have live stats and will be streamed to FloSports.

 

The last time the two teams faced off was during the middle of last season’s campaign when ODU secured a 4-1 victory on October 8 in Norfolk. Emily Tammaro registered two assists in the win. The defensive effort by the team did not allow Hofstra to register a shot until the second half.

 

About ODU:

 

ODU is ranked #18 in the NFHCA coaches poll and include three players who made the Preseason BIG-EAST All Conference Team: Kerry McCormick, Suus Broers, & Frederique Zandbergen

 

Zandbergen & Sanci Molkenboer are ODU’s leading returning scorers from 2023. Zandbergen finished with three goals and 17 assists while Molkenboer finished with nine goals and two assists. Last season, ODU averaged 2.95 goals per game on 14.2 shots per game.

 

In their first game of the season, ODU dispatched Richmond by a score of 3-0. Tess Jedeloo found the net twice from a corner routine. Both Rina Tsioles & Zandbergen finished the match with three assists apiece. Goalkeeper Suus Broers played the entire 60 minutes, recording three saves and securing the win for the Monarchs.

 

ABOUT HOFSTRA:

This will be the first game of the season for Hofstra. Their preseason warm up included a scrimmage against Stonehill. The result of the scrimmage was not recorded. Last season, the team finished with a record of 6-12. Tara McNally was the team's leading scorer with a total of 13 points. Pieke Roos is the returning goalkeeper for Hofstra, she started 12 matches and recorded a save percentage 0.784.

The Monarchs will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Queens University, on September 6 at noon.
