NORFOLK, Va. – The first wave of preseason honors came for the 2024 women’s soccer season and senior goalkeeper Emily Bredek was named on Friday to the Goalkeepers to Watch list by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
Bredek had a season for the record books in 2023 as she was named Sun Belt Goalkeeper of the Year, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Southeast Region. She appeared in 21 matches with 20 starts for the Monarchs, while logging 1,907 minutes for the season with a 0.52 goals-against-average and 56 saves with a 12-3-5 record.
She was instrumental in the Monarchs start going over 540 minutes to begin the season without allowing a goal. Bredek set a single-season mark for shutouts (11) and save percentage (.836), while she finished top ten nationally in goals against average (9th) and shutouts (tied 8th).
“We are delighted for Emily to get recognition in this pre-season watch list. It is a testament to just how impactful she was for us last year and proved herself to be one of the top GK’s in D1,” said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. “Knowing Emily however she will not want to rest on last year and as an individual and leader for this team, I know she will be motivated to continue to develop and play a key role for ODU Women’s Soccer this year. We are all thrilled for her.”
The lists are compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second-team All-Region players from 2023, who are scheduled to return for the 2024 season.
