NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind announced on Wednesday the 2024 schedule for the two-time Sun Belt Conference Champion Monarchs. ODU will face an 18-game regular season slate and host one exhibition contest at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
“We are immensely excited about the upcoming fall schedule as I think it is without doubt the most challenging we have faced in recent years,” said Hind. “Out of conference we play many of our in state rivals; teams such as VCU, W&M, and Liberty which are all very strong programs that I have a lot of respect for and are typically really tough, competitive matches. We have also scheduled an away match at Auburn and are delighted to host powerhouse LSU here at ODU - these will be big, big games for us against top class opposition. “
The Monarchs will host their only exhibition contest on August 11 when George Washington comes to town for a 1 p.m. kick. The regular season opener will see the Rams of VCU head down Interstate 64 for a 7 p.m. start on August 15. Last season, ODU defeated the Rams 2-1 in Richmond.
A two-game in-state road swing will follow as ODU will head to Liberty and face the Flames in Lynchburg at 1 p.m. Liberty advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season by winning Conference USA. Four days later, the Monarchs will head up Interstate 64 to face William & Mary at 7 p.m. on August 22.
Following that swing, ODU will host six of its next seven games in a five-week span. That run begins with UNC Wilmington coming to Norfolk for a 1 p.m. kick on August 25. This will be the first meeting between the teams since 2017.
September begins with LSU visiting Norfolk on September 1 for a 7 p.m. start. The Tigers made the NCAA Tournament last season and will be the first-ever meeting between the schools.
ODU will hit the home pitch again four days later when George Mason comes to town for a 6 p.m. start on September 5 and will follow that with Longwood coming in on September 8 also at 6 p.m.
The one road game in that stretch will have the Monarchs at Auburn to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. on September 13. They’ll return home to start conference play with Coastal Carolina on September 20 and ULM on September 26 with both matches scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
Old Dominion will start a run of three matches out of four on the road by visiting James Madison in a TowneBank Royal Rivalry contest on September 29 at 6 p.m. The Monarchs then head to South Alabama for a 7 p.m. ET match on October 4. A home contest with Georgia Southern on October 10 at 2 p.m. will then be followed by a visit to Atlanta to tangle at Georgia State on October 13 at 4 p.m.
The Monarchs will close out the regular season home schedule with a pair of contests facing Texas State on October 18 at 7 p.m. and then entertain Marshall on October 23 at 6 p.m.
ODU will venture to Arkansas State on October 27 for a 2 p.m. ET match and close the regular season on October 31 at App State for a 7 p.m. kick.
“I don’t think we could have chosen a more challenging Sun Belt conference slate considering the strength of the East Division opponents and add to that the three top West region teams in South Alabama, ULM. and Texas State,” Hind said. “There is no doubt we have a tremendous schedule set up for this fall and I know our players and staff are really looking forward to seeing where we can take ODU Women’s soccer to this year”
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will take place once again in Foley, Alabama running from November 4-9.
Old Dominion enters the 2024 season after winning three straight league crowns, two in the Sun Belt and one in Conference USA. They are one of 27 schools across the country, and the only one in Virginia, to have played in the last three NCAA tournaments.
