Everything You Need to Know For the Football Home Opener Against East Carolina

NORFOLK, Va. – Over the next three weeks Old Dominion Athletics will announce the gameday activities for each of this year’s six home games, beginning with the home opener against East Carolina.
 
Game Info
The home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7 against the Pirates is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Chip Tarkenton and Andy Mashaw will be on the call.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two programs, with ECU winning the first four games. The two teams last met in 2022 which was a 39-21 ECU win.
 
It will be Community Day and the Hall of Fame Game, with Sentara as the presenting game sponsor.

SURF (Schellhammer Urological Research Foundation) will highlight Community Day to present their second annual Blue Out to Beat Prostate Cancer.  This year, the Blue Out to Beat Prostate Cancer serves as the official kickoff event for SURF’s Prostate Awareness Month Campaign. The game will feature a Survivor moment during the game, time to celebrate the courage of prostate cancer survivors and their caregivers. Special ticket offers will be available for healthcare professionals throughout the Hampton Roads Community.

Community Day aims to celebrate the Hampton Roads Community with special ticket offers for youth football teams across the state, healthcare professionals, first responders and the maritime community.  ODU will also be recognizing the Stars of Honor in-game, more information to follow.  For more information, contact at (757) 683-3375.

Kaufman Mall
The exciting pregame atmosphere returns at Kaufman Mall beginning four hours prior to kickoff. The band Pop Topic will perform on Kaufman Mall beginning at 2:45 p.m. Stop by Kaufman Mall to enjoy the beer garden, the top food trucks in Virginia, games, and interactive experiences in the Kids Zone. 

The Dirty Buffalo chicken wing eating contest will make its debut at Kaufman Mall. There will be opportunities for fans to participate in the event. More information will be provided over the coming weeks.

Stop by the ODU marketing tent for giveaways and special activations from our partners and stay tuned for additional programming.  At 3:30 p.m. the Monarch March Band, under the direction of David Enloe, will get the crowd roaring with a 15-minute performance. At 3:45 the football team will come through Kaufman Mall on their way to the stadium as fans lineup to cheer on the Monarch March to the stadium.

Game Day Timeline (note: time is subject to change)

o   Kaufman Mall will open: 2 p.m.

o   Pop Topic will perform: 2:45 p.m.

o   Marching Band Performance: 3:30 p.m.

o   Monarch March: 3:45 p.m.

o   S.B. Ballard Stadium Gates Open: 4:30 p.m.

o   All Veterans Parachute Team: 5:45 p.m.

Season tickets are they best way to secure the best seats and are currently available starting at $200 for one of the best home schedules in program history.  Season tickets are available by clicking here.  Home opponents include ECU, Virginia Tech, Texas State, Georgia Southern, JMU and Marshall.  Season ticket holders will have an exclusive pre-sale opportunity to add on additional single game tickets to their package on July 17.  Single game tickets will go on-sale to the public on July 24.

Hall of Fame
This year’s ODU Sports Hall of Fame ceremony will be on Friday, Sept. 6 at Chartway Arena. This year’s class features Trey Freeman (Men’s Basketball), Christy Longacre (Field Hockey), Jonathan Plisco (Football), Evan Newton (Men’s Soccer) and Marty Bradley (Athletic Training). The hall of famers will be introduced to the crowd during Saturday’s game during a media timeout. The Friday night hall of fame dinner will be open to the public with more information coming in the next few weeks. Contact the ODAF for more information.
