Dr. Wood Selig Announces Hiring of Erin Goodman as Executive Assistant to Director of Athletics

NORFOLK, Va. – Dr. Wood Selig, Old Dominion’s director of athletics, has announced that ODU has hired Erin Goodman as executive assistant to the director of athletics.

Goodman comes to ODU from the Atlantic 10 Conference, where she was director of NCAA compliance and student services. She worked three years at the A-10, where she handled NCAA compliance, including the evaluation of potential violations, and rules interpretations and rules education for all 15 schools.

She also tracked and advised league officials on impending NCAA national legislation, headed efforts to improve mental health programs and oversaw the league’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving championships.

She came to the A-10 from Holy Family University, where she was an assistant athletic director for compliance.

“Erin Goodman is a fantastic hire for ODU,” Dr. Selig said. “Erin was clearly the most highly qualified person in what was a deep and talented pool of candidates.

“She has tremendous administrative experience and those with whom she worked with rave about her dedication to student-athletes. Her breadth of knowledge and experience will clearly make ODU a stronger athletics department.”

Goodman holds a master of science in sport management and intercollegiate athletic administration from California University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Temple University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in athletic training.

At ODU, she will work closely with the senior leadership athletics team. She will serve as the athletics liaison to ODU President Brian O. Hemphill and his office as well as the Board of Visitors, vice presidents and other key university administrators.

She will also serve as the athletic department’s human resources manager and help facilitate events for Dr. Selig and the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation.

“We will all be asking a lot of Erin and I’m confident that she will be an asset for our entire department,” Dr. Selig said.

Goodman says she views her new job as challenging but one she hopes will be rewarding.

“I'm excited to be joining the Monarch family and a department that not only succeeds athletically but also academically,” she said.

“Having lived in the area for the past three years now, I know how important ODU Athletics is to the community and I appreciate what Dr. Selig and the staff do to invest back into the community. I'm thankful for the opportunity to get back on campus and look forward to being an asset not only to Dr. Selig, but to the institution as well.”
