NORFOLK, Va. – The defending BIG EAST Champion Old Dominion Field Hockey Team opens the 2024 campaign with four-straight games on the road before hosting a pair of Power-Five opponents in the home-opening weekend to highlight the schedule, ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths announced on Wednesday.

“I’m excited for the 2024 Season. There’s excellent balance in our schedule. We have local rivalries, big challenges, and a powerful build up to a conference schedule which gets tougher each year,” Griffiths said. “We won the Big East Championship last year, but that board is wiped clean and we start again and have to earn every minute of play ahead of us and every win.”

Old Dominion opens the season at Richmond on Saturday, Aug. 30 before traveling to Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 1. ODU stays on the road heading to Queens College (NC) on Friday, Sept. 6 and finishing the weekend at William & Mary on Sunday, Sept. 8. The Tribe went 12-9 a season ago and won the CAA Tournament and defeated Sacred Heart in the CAA Tournament before losing to eventual champion, North Carolina.

The Monarchs open the home portion of the schedule on Friday, Sept. 13 against a pair of perennial Top-25 teams with Duke at 5 p.m. before welcoming Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a noon contest.

ODU hosts Liberty on Friday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. before hitting the road to end the month of September at Temple on Friday, Sept. 27 and at VCU on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.

Old Dominion returns home on Friday, Oct. 4 to host Providence at 1 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 11 the Monarchs will play Georgetown at Maryland at noon. ODU returns home on Sunday, Oct. 13 for the Townebank Royal Rivalry challenge against James Madison for a 1 p.m. start.

The Monarchs stay home to host Villanova on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. before hitting the road to face two-time defending national champion, North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 20.

ODU continues on the road on Friday, Oct. 25 at Quinnipiac before the final two regular season games, both at home. The Monarchs host App State on Sunday, Oct. 27 at noon and welcome UConn on Friday, Nov. 1 at noon.

“We have a strong core of players returning from last year’s team, but also some newcomers who we have high hopes for. The challenge, as always, is to bring the new group together quickly, and build chemistry and good team dynamics through the season to finish strong,” Griffiths said.

The Monarchs are coming off a 14-6 season in 2023 and the first BIG EAST Championship in program history. ODU won 12-straight games at one point during the year, including a 3-1 win over Liberty in the BIG EAST Tournament final.
