NORFOLK, Va. – The NCAA announced the individual qualifiers for the Women’s Tennis Singles Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma and for the fourth year in a row Old Dominion will have representation.
Junior Sofia Johnson was one of 12 automatic qualifiers in singles this year and will make her second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Last year she participated in doubles with Tatsiana Sasnouskaya where they advanced to the second round.
The NCAA Singles Championships will run May 20-25 at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The tournament draw will be announced on May 19.
Heading into this weekend’s regionals, Johnson is 19-8 this year in singles and 12-4 this spring. She was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, earned First Team All-Conference honors in singles and in doubles.
“We expect to send players to the singles draw each year. We schedule, train and play for these opportunities. I commend Sofia for stepping up to the plate and filling the shoes not only as our number one singles player, but as a trusted captain, teammate and conference player of the year. Just a job well done,” said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
