SAN DIEGO, Ca. – The Old Dominion women's rowing team finished their two days of action at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday.

ODU competed in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ - Cal Cup. They took third in the race in a time of 7:18.161 on Saturday and followed with a third place on Sunday in 7:16.594. Stanford won both days and UC San Diego took second.

Competing for the Monarchs were: Lucy BrennanSydnee BlackburnSofia BespalovaJinjoo Noh, Jo Copeland, Maddie Enns, Helen Schuette and Callie Crook with coxswain Libby Guindon.

ODU Head Coach Brian Conley was pleased how the young boat competed on the west coast.

"The Varsity 8+ raced this weekend and while the results are not where we want it to be, the athletes learned a lot about a higher level of rowing.  The heat we raced hard and had a goal of closing the margins against UC San Diego and Stanford. In the final, we bobbled off the start and panicked early on.  The boat did eventually find a good rhythm and even with the four-second bobble, the crew managed to keep the near same margin off the winning team from yesterday.  With it being a young boat and no seniors, I see a lot of development still to come from this group," he said.

ODU is back in action at the George Washington Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Washington, D.C.
