NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion rowing team heads across the country this weekend to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic. ODU will face Cal San Diego and Stanford in the event.
"The San Diego Crew Classic is a spring race that many athletes always hope they get the opportunity to race. ODU is really excited to be able to take our top Varsity boat out there to compete. It is also a great opportunity to expose the west coast rowing community to Old Dominion rowing and expose some potential recruits to the culture we are trying to build here," said ODU Head Coach Brian Conley.
ODU will be competing in the Women's Collegiate Varsity8+ Cal Cup with a first race on Saturday at 9:42 a.m. PDT and the finals scheduled for Sunday at 9:50 a.m. PDT. Competing for the Monarchs will be: Lucy Brennan, Sydnee Blackburn, Sofia Bespalova, Jinjoo Noh, Jo Copeland, Maddie Enns, Helen Schuette and Callie Crook with coxswain Libby Guindon.
"The varsity has definitely started to find their stride and I am looking forward to seeing them try to raise their game. UC San Diego recently raced against our American Conference competitor Sacramento State, so being able to try and compare speed is only going to help us as we move through this season," Conley added.
