GREENVILLE, N.C. – Erin Gulden of East Carolina scored a goal with two minutes remaining in the fourth period and break a 10-all tie and the Pirates hung on for an 11-10 win over Old Dominion Lacrosse Saturday afternoon in Greenville.
The teams went toe-to-toe in the fourth period, as ECU took a 9-7 lead but ODU (3-12, 0-5 AAC) cut the lead to 9-8 on an Emma Arold goal with just under 10 minutes to go.
ECU (4-11, 1-5 AAC) made it 10-8 but the Monarchs tied the score again at 10 as Rowland and Sydney Taylor tied the score at 10.
ECU scored first on a Riley Matthiesen goal eight minutes in while Emma Rowland tied the score at one less than a minute later.
The Pirates scored three-straight goals for a 4-1 advantage but Rowland scored her second of the game in the second period to cut the deficit to 4-2.
ECU made it 5-2 before Rowland's third goal of the game. Dating back to the last game at Virginia Tech, Rowland scored seven of ODU's last eight goals.
The Pirates scored with 35 seconds left before halftime for a 6-3 lead at the break.
ODU closed the gap in the third period with a pair of goals from Moira Olexa and Sydney Taylor, tying the score at seven to end the third.
Rowland tied her career-high with four goals, which she set the previous game at Virginia Tech, while Olexa tallied three goals.
Jenna Peccia made 13 saves in goal for ODU.
The Monarchs return home on Saturday, April 27 to host James Madison in the Townebank Royal Rivalry at noon.
