ODU Lacrosse Overcomes 5-1 Deficit To Defeat George Washington 18-13

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Lacrosse team overcame a 5-1 deficit to take down George Washington 18-13 on Tuesday at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Emma Arnold led the way for the Monarchs scoring a career high seven goals and added an assist. 
 
ODU (3-4) opened the scoring as Lilly Siskind found a cutting Emma Rowland for the game's first goal. George Washington (2-5) responded four minutes later tying the game and went on to score two more goals in the first quarter to take a 3-1 advantage after one period of play. 
 
The second quarter was dominated by the defense for the first 10 minutes as neither team could score until the Revolutionaries bolstered their lead with two more goals with 3:50 to play in the first half. The Monarchs offense exploded after that as Sydney Taylor found the back of the net with 2:27 to play and Siskind followed with her 11th  goal on the year 30 seconds later. The Monarchs trimmed the George Washington lead to one 40 seconds later as Arnold scored. With 25 seconds remaining GW went up 6-4 but with time winding down Arnold cut the Revolutionaries lead to just one with five ticks left making it 6-5 at the break. 
 
Arnold continued her career day into the third quarter tying the game at six at the 11:16 mark. Two minutes later, Olivia Tanneberger gave the Monarchs their first lead since the first quarter and one minute later scored her second goal giving ODU an 8-6 advantage. George Washington wouldn't go away as they cut into the Monarch lead before Rowland and Arnold scored back-to-back goals making it 10-7 with 5:29 to play in the third. The goals kept coming as George Washington scored but Arnold quickly pushed the lead back to three. George Washington made it a two-score game with 2:29 to play in the period and would enter the fourth quarter trailing 11-9.
 
The fourth quarter started as the Revolutionaries cut into the deficit but a minute later Siskind pushed the lead back to two and then made it a hat-trick at the 11:50 mark giving ODU a 13-10 lead. George Washington refused to go away as they scored back-toback goals making it a one score game with 6:07 to play. With 4:37 left in the game ODU opened up their lead and never looked back as Taylor scored, one minute later Callie Culhane scored her first goal of the year making it 15-12. Arnold scored her sixth and seventh goal of the day before Siskind added her fourth of the day giving ODU an 18-12 lead with 36 seconds to play. George Washington was able to get one more goal with eight seconds left but was too late as ODU took the win 18-13.
 
Siskind finished the day with seven points racking up four goals and three assists.
 
Old Dominion is back in action on Sunday, March 10 at 12 when they travel to take on Rider.
