NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion sailing team is back in action this weekend on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31 at the MAISA Women's Fleet Race. 
 
The Monarchs head up to Geneva, New York this weekend to compete at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in the first of this season's conference championships. The Women's Fleet Race Conference Championships will feature 15 teams from around the conference, including Christopher Newport, Cornell, Fordham, George Washington, Georgetown, Hobart & William Smith, Princeton, Queen's, SUNY Maritime, St Mary's College of Maryland, US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Navy, Penn and Washington College. 
 
In the fall, the women placed 5th at the conference championships and look to improve upon that this weekend. Senior Elizabeth Gildea will drive in A fleet with sophomore Cadence Goodnight crewing. Freshman Gianna Dewey and senior Megan Geith will share the duty of driving in B division with junior Jean Volk crewing. Kristin Johnson will be the alternate crew this weekend. The winner and runner up teams this weekend will be awarded an AQ berth to the 2024 College Sailing Women's Nationals. The rest of the field will be put into the pool from which the remaining spots are selected by selection committee.
 
Old Dominion's coed team is currently #15 in the nation and the women's team comes in ranked 16th nationally.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 at the Truxtun Umstead Open Fleet Race in Throgs Neck, New York and the Oberg 1st Alternate in Boston, Massachusetts.
