NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion sailing team competed in the Aaron Szambecki Team Race and Hanbury Trophy over the weekend. ODU took seventh out of nine teams at the Aaron Szambecki race and the Monarchs placed second out of 14 teams at the Hanbury Trophy.
ODU finished the Aaron Szambecki race with a 6-9 record. The team featured Parker Purrington, Diogo Silva and Noyl Odom as skippers while the crew was Asia Acosta, Ian Kissel, Ethan Tutt and Parker Younger. Old Dominion went 3-5 in the first round of races defeating Charleston, Dartmouth and George Washington. In the second round the Monarchs went 3-4 defeating George Washington, Hobart & William and Charleston.
Old Dominion had a Division A and Division B team at the Hanbury Trophy. The Division A team of Sam Riley and Isabelle Kanach placed fourth out of 14 with six top five finishes, including one first place finish. The Division B duo was Milo Miller and Molly Hanson who placed second out of 14 teams with eight top five finishes and three first place finishes.
The Monarchs are back in action next Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31 at the MAISA Women's Fleet Race in Geneva, New York.
