NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion women's soccer standouts Ashlynn Kulha and Ece Turkoglu were recently honored by Top Drawer Soccer on their top 100 lists of 2023. Kulha was #25 in the Top 100 Freshmen, while Turkoglu was #84 in the Top 100 Players.
Kulha made an immediate impact as a defender seeing action in all 21 matches with 20 starts as a freshman. A talented player who was a solid presence on defense all year, Kulha ended the year with four goals and two assists. She scored against Richmond, Texas State, Georgia State and Georgetown, with her goals against Richmond and Georgia State being game winners. Kulha tallied assists against George Mason in her collegiate debut and in the Sun Belt Championship match with James Madison.
Turkoglu, a team captain in 2023, had an incredible season for the Monarchs from a defensive midfield position. In her final season, she helped lead the team to a second straight Sun Belt Conference title and third straight league crown. Turkoglu was instrumental in the success of the team as she scored a team-high five goals. She tallied two against Southern Miss, one each against Campbell, Marshall and one goal along with one assist against George Mason. She earned Sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP and All-Conference honors this season. Turkoglu was a Third Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches and a First Team All-Southeast Region selection in 2023.
The Monarchs finished the 2023 season with a 13-3-5 record and won their second straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament crown. ODU set a new program record of over 500 minutes to start the season without allowing a goal.
