NORFOLK, Va. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and United States Marine Corps (USMC) announced the winners of the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award on Thursday and the Monarchs finished in the top 20 percent of all NCAA Division I women's teams, earning Honor Roll distinction.
This marks the fourth straight year that ODU has made the Honor Roll as the Monarchs have earned the Team Academic Award every year in program history.
"I'm incredibly proud of our team's continued success both on the court and in the classroom," said ODU Head Coach Fred Chao. "To earn Honor Roll once is quite the achievement, but to do it four times in a row speaks to their dedication and commitment as student-athletes."
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The accolade also honors teams who have matched their dedicated to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom.
This year, a total of 1,333 teams among high schools and colleges were recognized by the AVCA, marking a new all-time record.
