ODU Women's Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

NORFOLK, Va. -- Head Coach Angie Hind and the Old Dominion women's soccer program announced on Tuesday the 2023 Old Dominion Women's Soccer Schedule.  The defending Sun Belt Conference champions will play a 17-game slate with nine home matches.
 
"I am very excited about the upcoming 2023 season and the schedule we have put together," Hind said. "As with every year with our non-conference schedule we try to put ourselves in a position to compete against some of the best programs in our state and region and we are looking forward to great games against strong opponents such as Virginia Tech, Campbell, VCU and of course local rival William & Mary. We strive to be recognized as one of the leading programs in the state of Virginia and therefore purposefully set up a schedule that will allows us to challenge for just that. We are fortunate to be surrounded by a plethora of great teams and are always excited for our non-conference slate."
 
Following an August 9 exhibition match at home with Liberty, the Monarchs will open play on the road in Fairfax facing George Mason on August 17 at 6 p.m. The home slate begins three nights later as Old Dominion will host Campbell on August 20, also at 6 p.m.
 
ODU will then tangle with the city of Richmond as they'll visit VCU on August 24 and then host Richmond on August 27, with both matches at 6 p.m. The month of August closes as Old Dominion visits Virginia Tech for a 5 p.m. match in Blacksburg.
 
September will see the Monarchs home for four of their six matches starting with the Interstate 64 rivalry hosting William & Mary on September 3 at 6 p.m. A week later, High Point comes to Norfolk for a 3 p.m. match on September 10.
 
"This is only our second season in the Sun Belt Conference, but we are already very aware of how competitive a conference this is," Hind added. "I think our conference schedule is as competitive as it can be as all but one of our divisional teams made last year's tournament. Our cross-over games against Texas State, Louisiana, and Southern Miss will be really challenging, however I am pleased we have two of the three fixtures at home. "
 
Sun Belt Conference play begins on September 15 when ODU visits Coastal Carolina for a 6 p.m. kick in Conway, South Carolina. The home conference opener will be on September 21 as Louisiana comes to the ODU Soccer Complex for a 7 p.m. kick.
 
Old Dominion wraps up September visiting Georgia Southern on September 24 for a 1 p.m. kick and then host Southern Miss. for a 2 p.m. start on September 30.
 
The month of October has Old Dominion starting on the road against Marshall on October 5 at 6 p.m. James Madison then comes to Norfolk for a 6 p.m. match on October 8 in a rematch of the 2022 Sun Belt Conference title game won by ODU 4-3 in double overtime.
 
App State visits ODU for a 6 p.m. kick on October 13 before the Monarchs make their longest road trip of the regular season to San Marcos, Texas for an October 19 match at Texas State in a 7 p.m. EST kick. The last week of the regular season will have ODU hosting Georgia State at 12:30 p.m. on October 22, then close out at ULM on October 26 at 7 p.m.
 
"There is no doubt, given our recent successes, we will have a bit of a target on our back, but that pressure has been hard-earned and I know our group will be as best prepared as we can be for what we hope will be another breakthrough year," said Hind. 
 
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will again be held in Foley, Alabama ending with the championship game on November 5.
