Manilla, Sasnouskaya and Johnson Earn VaSID All-State Honors Thursday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division Women's Tennis All-State team was announced on Thursday and Old Dominion came away with two of the top three awards.
 
Head Coach Dominic Manilla was named the State Coach of the Year for the third time in his tenure, while senior Tatsiana Sasnouskaya was named State Player of the Year.
 
Sasnouskaya was a first team selection in singles, while the doubles tandem of Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson were also first team honorees. Johnson was named to the second team in singles.
 
Manilla, who took home the State Coach of the Year honor in both 2018 and 2019 as well, led ODU to a 19-5 record and the Sun Belt Conference title this past season. The Monarchs picked up an opening round win of the NCAA Tournament over No. 33 South Carolina and finished the year ranked No. 29 in the country.  He will enter the 2023-24 season 19 wins shy of 200 in his career.
 
Sasnouskaya was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year along with taking home first team all-league honors. She finished the season as the highest ranked state player nationally in singles at No. 25. Sasnouskaya posted a 21-5 singles mark with a 19-7 record in doubles. Included in her haul of singles victories were eight nationally-ranked wins. She earned a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship and advanced to the second round.  In doubles, she and Johnson earned a bid to the NCAA Championship and advanced to the second round after defeating the fourth-seeded duo from Oklahoma.
 
Johnson finished the year 16-8 overall, 12-6 in dual matches and 6-1 in league play. She has played the two line most of the season and has a pair of four-match winning streaks. In non-league play, she has wins over West Virginia, LSU, Princeton (2), Va. Tech, Penn State and Florida State.
 
In doubles, Johnson and Sasnouskaya finished 20-7 overall, 14-2 in dual matches and a perfect 6-0 in Sun Belt play. They knocked off the second-ranked duo from Oklahoma in the ITA All-Americans in the fall and then again in the opening round of the NCAA Championships. They also have a win over 12th-ranked Wake Forest tandem in a February dual. The tandem has recorded wins over West Virginia, LSU, Rice, Oklahoma (2), Penn State, Ohio State, Wake Forest and Florida State. They ended the year ranked 26th nationally.
