CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Saturday with a 4-0 loss at top-ranked North Carolina on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Doubles saw North Carolina take the point winning line two and three by 6-2 counts. Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson were even 4-4 and up 15-0 in their match when the Tar Heels got the team point.
The Tar Heels won at line two, five and six to take the win and advance to the Super Regionals next weekend.
In singles, Tatsiana Sasnouskaya took the first set from eighth-ranked Reese Brantmeier and was 3-3 when match ended. Shahar Biran took the first set from 28th-ranked Carson Tanguilig 7-6 (7-5) and down 3-0 in the second when the match ended.
"Obviously disappointed not to get the win today. We wanted to be on the other end," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "Hats off to North Carolina they played a fantastic match from start to finish. They made it no secret why they're the number one team in the country. We did a great job and it's a fantastic season for this group of Monarchs. To make it to this point is admirable and I want to say 'Thank You' to everyone who helped us get to this point."
Old Dominion ended the season winning 14 of its last 15 matches and took their first Sun Belt Conference title with a win over JMU. They won their third straight conference title and advanced to their fourth straight NCAA Tournament.
