Ece Turkoglu Named First Team Scholar All-American By United Soccer Coaches

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion senior standout Ece Turkoglu earned yet another impressive honor as she was named as a First Team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American.
 
This marks the second straight year and third all-time honoree by the United Soccer Coaches. Carla Morich was a third team selection last year and Katie Watson was also a third team pick in 2007.
 
To be eligible for selection, candidates must be at least a junior in academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.40 for their career. Players must also have played in at least 75 percent of the season's games, contributed significantly to the team's success and be an elite player as evidenced by athletic accolades for the season.
 
Turkoglu, a team captain in 2023, had an incredible season for the Monarchs from a defensive midfield position. In her senior and last season, she helped lead the team to a second straight Sun Belt Conference title and third straight league crown. Turkoglu was instrumental in the success of the team as she scored a team-high five goals. She tallied twice against Southern Miss, one each against Campbell, Marshall and one goal along with one assist against George Mason.
 
She earned Sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP and All-Conference honors this season. Turkoglu was a Third Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches and a First Team All-Southeast Region selection in 2023, along with a Third Team All-Southeast Region selection in 2022. She is also a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree.
