NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's golf head coach Mallory Kane announced on Wednesday that she has added Alina Shchepteva for next year. She is the second member of the team's 2024 recruitment class after Kane also signed Mariana Arronte Sanchez. The pair will join the Monarchs next fall.

"Alina possesses all of the qualities we value in our program," said Kane. "She's smart, competitive, and comes from a great family. Her best golf is ahead of her and we are glad she chose ODU. I'm certain Alina will make an immediate impact on our team and we look forward to her arrival this fall."

Alina Shchepteva | Novosibirsk, Russia | NYU Prague / Presbyterian
Shchepteva comes to Norfolk after spending time at NYU in Prague and playing one semester at Presbyterian College this past spring. In her time with the Blue Hose, she posted a Top 10 finish at the Bright's Creek Intercollegiate on Feb. 25-26, tying for ninth to help PC secure its first team victory since the 2008-09 season. She also tied for 13th in the 36-hole Low Country Intercollegiate on March 17-19 to earn Big South Freshman of the Week honors. Shchepteva carded a two-under par 70 in the final round of the 2023 Big South Championship to end up in a tie for 12th.

While at NYU in Prague, she owned a scoring average of 76.2 with a personal-best round of two-under par 70. Shchepteva had a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 1,015, was ranked 10th in U18 of Czech Republic, and was part of the Russian National Team.

She will be a graduate student with two years of eligibility when she joins the Monarchs.

Why ODU?
"I chose ODU for its strong reputation in Sport Management which I want to major in. The appealing campus environment, and the opportunities made me feel like home. Additionally, the strong passion for golf and sense of team spirit were important factors in my decision. I am delighted to be surrounded by an amazing team and coaches. Very grateful for this opportunity from coach Kane and coach Johnson."
