NORFOLK, Va. – After a statement victory over Florida Gulf Coast this past Sunday, the undefeated Old Dominion women's basketball team finds itself listed 12th in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on Tuesday night.
ODU received 424 points in this week's poll, which is voted on by a panel of 31 head coaches from mid-major programs. The Monarchs were receiving votes with 47 points in the previous poll released on Nov. 28.
The Monarchs are 7-0 so far this season, marking the program's best start since 1997-98. ODU will be on the road this Thursday as the team heads to Newark, Delaware for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Blue Hens (4-3) of Delaware.
ODU is one of three Sun Belt teams ranked in the most recent poll. Southern Miss, the only other undefeated team in the conference at 7-0, owns the No. 9 spot with 453 points. James Madison is right ahead of ODU in 11th place with 428 points as the Dukes are currently 6-3 overall. Additionally, ULM and Troy are receiving votes with six points and one point, respectively.
The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Coastal Athletic, Conference USA, Horizon, Independent, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic.
The Mid-Major Top 25 is released every Tuesday throughout the season.
