GENEVA, N.Y. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its All-Region teams Wednesday morning. Marlon de Bruijne and Frederique Zandbergen were named First Team and Nicole Fredricks and Rina Tsioles were named Second Team.
de Bruijne led the Monarchs offensively scoring 42 points, 18 goals and added six assists. She was a First Team All-BIG EAST Member and a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team member. She led the BIG EAST in points per game, goals per game, goals and points.
Zandbergen led the BIG EAST with 17 assists. She scored three goals and had 23 points. She was a BIG EAST All Conference First team member and was part of the BIG EAST All-Tournament team.
Fredricks led the Monarchs defensively as the captain started every game scoring four goals. Her biggest goal came in the BIG EAST Championship to give the Monarchs a 3-1 lead over #6 Liberty to secure the school's first BIG EAST Tournament Title. She was named BIG EAST Tournament MVP, First Team All-BIG EAST Conference and BIG EAST All-Tournament team.
Tsioles started all 20 games for the Monarchs, she scored 11 points with nine assists and one goal. Her one goal was a game-winner that came against UConn in overtime to secure a 3-2 win over the Huskies. The victory snapped a 13-game losing streak and the Monarchs' first win over UConn in 10 years. She was a key part of Old Dominion's defensive midfield.
