NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University men's golf has signed its first golfer for the class of 2024 in Jakub Sutor. He is the program's first golfer from the Czech Republic and will join the team next fall.
"Jakub is an exceptional golfer with multiple individual and team titles," said Associate Head Coach Barry Marple. "Along with his impressive academics and enthusiasm for Old Dominion, we're very excited to have him on the team."
Sutor is a member of the Beskydsky Golf Club Team that has won the Czech National Team Championships for U14, U16, U18 and men's divisions. A native of Bystrice, Czech Republic, he was the overall winner of the 2020 Czech National U16 Tour and also won the 2023 APS Junior Masters at Sedin Golf Resort. He shot an 11-under for the 2023 APS Junior Masters tournament at Welten Golf Club, highlighted by a second round of 63 with a total of 29 on the back nine.
"Everyone received me so well when I visited ODU," said Sutor. "It was a great day in my life meeting everyone in person. Coach [Murray] Rudisill and Coach Marple were amazing and super fun to be around and I enjoyed my time spent with the guys on the team. I realized that being a Monarch means something: it is way more than just a place. Ever since I started playing golf, I have always enjoyed team atmospheres. Old Dominion University has lots of character. It's more than just a school, it's a home and I am so happy I will be able to call Old Dominion my home for the years to come!"
