Old Dominion Field Hockey Hosts Georgetown and Hofstra on Friday and Sunday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Field Hockey team is back at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex this weekend when the Monarchs continue BIG EAST play on Friday at 5 p.m. against Georgetown. ODU will be right back at home on Sunday at 12 p.m. to take on Hofstra.

Old Dominion is coming off a 1-0 weekend after defeating Providence 2-1 in overtime last Friday. Providence was able to get on the board first in the third quarter. The Friars held that lead until just under five minutes left in the game when Sanci Molkenboer evened the game on a penalty corner. ODU would then head to overtime where Marlon de Bruijne delivered the game winning goal on a penalty corner. 
 
Leading the Monarchs offensively is de Bruijne with 15 points and seven goals. Molkenboer is right behind her Dutch counterpart with 11 points and five goals. Frederique Zandbergen leads the team with four assists. 
 
Georgetown is coming off an 0-2 weekend with a 3-2 loss to Quinnipiac on Friday and a 3-2 loss to Saint Francis on Sunday. Leading the Hoyas offensively is Vivienne Trumpbour who has a team-high 13 points and five goals. Second on the team is Sophie Towne who has 12 points, four goals and a team-high four assists. ODU is 8-1 all time against Georgetown with the last win coming last season in Washington, D.C. 2-0. 
 
Hofstra went 0-2 last weekend with a 2-1 overtime loss to Drexel on Friday and a 4-1 loss to Maine on Sunday. Samantha Spera leads Hofstra offensively with 10 points and four goals. Kesia Richardson has a team-high five assists. Sunday will be the 12th meeting between ODU and Hofstra as the Monarchs lead the all-time series 10-1. The Pride and Monarchs last met in 2012 as ODU won 7-2 in Hempstead, New York. 
 
The Monarchs are back in action next weekend when they will travel to Villanova on Friday, Oct. 13 for a game starting at 3 p.m. ODU returns home on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. to play host to the Richmond Spiders.
