NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Rowing team is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 29 for the Head of the Lafayette Regatta.

The race is a 5000-meter race with a 180 degree turn at the halfway point. The race starts at the Granby Street bridge and will pass Mayflower Avenue.

"The ODU rowing team has an internal competition within this regatta since we will be the only Division 1 collegiate team. We will race mixed boats and will participate in a team costume contest at the same time. This means that we will mix veteran athletes with novice athletes and try to have as equal in speed boats as possible to create an "any given Sunday" of who will win this event", said head coach Brian Conley.

"It is just a fun way to celebrate the hard work this team has been putting in all fall. The athletes with the fastest scores on the rowing machine will select their crews, boats, oars and coxswains. They will also be selecting where each person sits in the boat as well. The expectations for us this weekend are still to compete with the other crews on the water and see who is the fastest crew in the boathouse that day. It will be a fun and hopefully fast day for the team," said Conley.

The rowing team will wrap up its fall season next Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Head of the Occoquan in Fairfax, Virginia.
