LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion women's tennis team finished off play this weekend in the ITA Atlantic Regionals hosted by Liberty with a pair of deep runs in the brackets.
Doubles saw the fourth-seeded tandem of Sofia Johnson and Alexandra Viktorovitch advance to the quarterfinals, while in singles both Johnson and Viktorovitch made it to the round of 16.
In doubles, Viktorovitch and Johnson were the fourth-seeded tandem and opened with an 8-2 win over Chandre Boshoff and Olivia Rothfield of Towson. In the second round they defeated Alessandra Ahnghel and Emma Fernald of William & Mary 8-5. They followed that with an 8-1 win over Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane of Marshall 8-1. In the quarterfinals they were eliminated by Eliza Askarova and Alexandra Staiculescu of Delaware 8-6.
In singles, the 12th-seeded Johnson started with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Emma Valletta of VCU then disposed of Olivia Dorner of Penn State 6-3, 6-2. She was eliminated with a tough three-set loss to the top-seed Sara Ziodato of Virginia 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Viktorovitch, seeded 13th, started with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anja Draskovic of VCU and then defeated Semra Asku of Virgijnia Tech 7-5, 6-4. She was knocked out of singles in a 6-0, 6-2 loss to seventh-seeded Hibah Shaikh of Virginia.
Allison Isaacs won two matches in the qualifying rounds of singles to make it into the main draw. She defeated Victoria Tracy of St. Joseph's 6-1, 6-3 and then Chloe Bendetti of Georgetown 6-1, 7-5.
The Monarchs will next see action at the ITF 15k event in Norman, Oklahoma starting October 30.
