NORFOLK, Va. – Jacob Sandun scored two second half goals in a span of less than six minutes of the second half as Georgia Southern defeated Old Dominion 2-1 in Sun Belt Conference men's soccer on Sunday night.

ODU (5-4-5, 2-4-1) got on the board quickly as Nicholas Alves took an errant pass at midfield and found Jonas Schmalbach on a breakaway. Schmalbach flicked it into the net for a 1-0 ODU lead at 2:39 of the opening half. Georgia Southern (2-7-6, 1-3-3) controlled possession for most of the half, holding a slight 5-4 edge in shots.

In the second half, Sandun got the scoring going at 73:47 as Ty Wilson found Sandun with a crossing pass and he put it in to even the match at 1-1. Nearly six minutes later, Sandun broke free down the left side and launched one into the upper half of the net to put Georgia Southern ahead 2-1 at 79:43.

ODU had a couple chances in the last two minutes with corner kicks, but the Eagles held firm and kept the Monarchs out of the net. For the night, Georgia Southern outshot ODU 14-10.

The Monarchs close out their home schedule on Friday night hosting Marshall at 7 p.m.
