NEW ORLEANS – Junior goalkeeper Emily Bredek was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.
Bredek, from Huntington Beach, California, tied the school single season record with her ninth shutout as the Monarchs blanked App State 1-0 last Friday night. She recorded a season-high eight saves against App State including two big time stops in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.
On the year, she leads the nation in goals against average (0.291), third in save percentage (.902) and fifth in shutouts with nine. As a team, the Monarchs lead the country in goals against average (0.286) and save percentage (0.902).
ODU (10-1-3, 5-1-1), unbeaten in its last five matches, heads to San Marcos, Texas on Thursday night to face Texas State at 8 p.m.
