FAIRFAX, Va. – Jonas Schmalbach and William Arnesen each tallied goals in the first half, but the Old Dominion men's soccer team ended in a 2-2 draw with George Mason on Monday night.

"Tonight's game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams having chances to win. We must play a complete game to get our first win of the season," said ODU Head Coach Alan Dawson.

Old Dominion (0-0-3) opened the scoring at the 13:49 mark of the first half when Valdimar Daoi Saeversson connected with Schmalbach who stuffed one past the goalkeeper for the early 1-0 advantage. It was the second straight game for Schmalbach to tally a goal for the Monarchs.

George Mason took advantage of a loose ball deep in their offensive end and Henry Wachsman leveled the contest at 21:16 of the half.

ODU kept attacking and the Monarchs were able to push ahead with 15 seconds left in the half as Nicholas Alves found Arnesen who blasted one in for the 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Levi Stephens and Luis Maestre found Souley Douf who put the equalizer in for George Mason at 56:54 of the match.

From there, the Monarchs peppered the net but were stopped by Jaume Salvado who ended the night with seven saves for the Patriots. Old Dominion held a 15-13 advantage in shots and 5-2 in corner kicks.

ODU now heads to Radford on Friday night for a 7 pm kick against the Highlanders.
