NEW ORLEANS – For the third time in the past two weeks, an Old Dominion volleyball player has earned conference weekly honors as the Sun Belt named Teresa Atilano its Setter of the Week on Tuesday morning. Last week saw Myah Conway voted the conference's Offensive Player of the Week and Bailey Burgess the Defensive Player of the Week.
A senior from San Diego, California, Atilano led the league this past week with 130 assists while averaging 10.83 per set. She also recorded double-doubles in all three of ODU's matches, helping the Monarchs to a 2-1 record with wins over Liberty and Marshall. She currently leads the nation with 596 assists this season and ranks eighth in service aces with 30. Atilano needs 50 more assists to reach 3,000 for her career.
Atilano started off the week with 43 assists, 10 digs, five blocks and four aces in the team's 3-2 win over Liberty. In Thursday's conference opener at Marshall, she finished with 46 assists, 12 digs, six kills and three blocks as the Monarchs defeated the Herd, 3-1. She then turned in a 41-assist, 10-dig effort on Friday, adding two blocks to her totals.
This marks Atilano's third career weekly honor. She was named the Conference USA Setter of the Week on Sept. 20, 2021 and earned Sun Belt Setter of the Week on Sept. 27 last season.
The Monarchs host Sun Belt East Division foe Georgia Southern this Friday and Saturday. The first match of the conference series is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start, and the second match will begin at 2 p.m.
