NORFOLK, Va. –  A Sanci Molkenboer goal with two minutes before halftime proved to be enough as Old Dominion Field Hockey defeated #19 Temple 1-0 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Friday.

ODU (3-5) was dominant from start to finish in the win over Temple (6-3) on Friday afternoon. The first quarter was played even as the ball was turned over between the two teams in the midfield. The second quarter saw more action as both squads were able to register shots. The Monarchs outshot the Owls 5-1 and had more corners 3-1. Old Dominion broke through when Emily Tammaro crossed a ball into the circle and Molkenboer did the rest as she shot it past the Temple keeper giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead with two minutes before halftime.

The second half was spent in the Temple defensive third as ODU held the Owls to no shots in the second half. The Monarchs were able to register one shot in the third and fourth quarter but couldn't score.

"We knew that Temple was going to be ready to play they are always a tough team and well coached. The game was what we thought it was going to be, we can out strong and they came right back. We played into the flow of the game and got on the board early which was a goal of ours," said Associate Head Coach Natalie Holder

"We have been playing well for a while and have been waiting for a while to get into the win column and I'm proud about how they responded. Anytime you get a conference win its really important."

Old Dominion is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 24 when they host William & Mary at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex starting at 12 p.m.
