ODU Field Hockey Set To Host #19 Temple and William & Mary This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Field Hockey team is back at home on Friday, Sept. 22 and Sunday Sept. 24 when they play host to #19 Temple Owls and William & Mary. 
Friday's contest against Temple has been moved to a noon start due to inclement weather in the area.
 
ODU is coming off an 0-2 weekend with a 2-0 loss at #10 Liberty on Friday and a 1-0 loss to #9 Duke on Sunday. The Monarchs will be playing a ranked team for the fourth straight game when #19 Temple comes to Norfolk, and it will be the fifth ranked team faced this season. Old Dominion is currently 0-4 versus teams ranked in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. 
 
Offensively leading the Monarchs is Marlon de Bruijne with 11 points, five goals and one assist. In goal for ODU is Suus Broers who had been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week two times this year and has made 24 saves with a goals against average of 1.55. Broers also has two shutouts on the year. 
 
Temple is coming off an 2-0 weekend after opening BIG EAST play on Friday with a win over UConn 1-0 and then beat Lehigh 2-0 on Sunday. For the Owls offensively, Tess Muller leads the team with eight points and three goals. Alizé Maes has five points and a team high three assists.  The Monarchs and Owls faced each other two times last season, both games saw an ODU victory with the first coming in Philadelphia 2-0 and then ODU beat Temple in the BIG EAST Tournament, 4-3 after penalty shootouts. The Monarchs lead the series 28-4-1 and currently on an eight-game win streak. ODU is 15-1 against the Owls when playing at home.
 
William & Mary is coming off a 1-1 weekend. The Tribe defeated Towson on Friday 3-2 to open CAA play and fell to #10 Liberty, 2-0 on Sunday. W&M are 2-0 when playing on the road and 0-3 when playing at home this season. Leading the Tribe offensively is Pyper Freidman with eight points and four goals. Last season ODU fell to the Tribe 3-2 in double overtime in Williamsburg to open the season. The Monarchs lead the all-time series 49-14-1.
