Conway and Burgess Named Sun Belt Players of the Week

StoryStory

NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion volleyball players Myah Conway and Bailey Burgess have been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

A junior right side hitter from Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, Conway was named to the Mountaineer Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Monarchs (7-6) with 44 kills (4.00/set) and hitting .371. She also racked up a team-high 50.5 points (4.49/set) to help ODU secure sweeps of West Virginia and Robert Morris last Thursday. Conway swung for a .526 clip with 11 kills and five blocks in the 3-0 win over WVU, ODU's first victory over a Power 5 opponent. She then followed with 15 kills and a .481 hitting percentage versus RMU and closed out the trip with 18 kills and a .255 percentage on Friday versus North Dakota State.

Burgess, a sophomore middle blocker out of Raleigh, North Carolina, led the league with 22 blocks (2.00/set) this past week. She tied her career high of nine blocks in the win over the Mountaineers, then followed that up with a six-block outing against the Colonials and another seven versus the Bison. Thanks to her effort at the net, ODU led the Sun Belt last week with 3.27 blocks per set.

This marks the third career weekly honor for Conway as she was a two-time CUSA Freshman of the Week in 2021. This is the first career weekly honor for Burgess.

ODU is back on its home court this evening as the Monarchs close out their non-conference schedule against Liberty. The match is set for a 5 p.m. start at the ODU Volleyball Center.
