NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Sailing team competed in the Faye Bennett and Chesapeake Invitational over the weekend.
In the Chesapeake Invitational Old Dominion placed second out of six teams as the racing concluded on Saturday. The division A team for the Monarchs was Noyl Odom and Asianna Acosta, the division B team was Parker Purrington and Grace Wright, and the division C team was Diogo Silva and Lindsey Kuafmann. The division A team finished second out of 18 teams. The division B team finished fourth and the division C team finished eighth.
On Saturday of the Faye Bennett Women's singlehanded championship Gianna Dewey finished fourth out of 18 racers. Emma Friedauer finished eighth and Olivia Gilmore finished in 18th. Dewey raced nine times having two first place finishes and a second-place finish. Freidauer finished the day with a second-place finish and finished twice in the fifth spot. Gilmore's highest finish of the day was ninth. On Sunday, Dewey raced five more times finishing third in two of the races. Freidauer raced five times and finished 10th in all of them, and Gilmore finished as high as fifth in her five races. Dewey finished third overall, Freidauer finished 10th and Gilmore finished 15th out of 18.
Sailing is back in action next week for the Top 9 combined/ singlehanded races in New York.
