NEW ORLEANS – Freshman defender Ashlynn Kulha was named on Tuesday as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league office.
Kulha, from Holly Springs, North Carolina, played every minute of both games this past week for ODU (4-0-0) in a 2-0 win at VCU and a 1-0 win at home over Richmond. As a true freshman, she led the back line as the Monarchs ran their clean sheet streak to four. She also recorded her first collegiate goal in the 10th minute in the win over the Spiders Sunday. On the year, she has one goal and one assist for three points.
Through the first two weeks of the season, the Monarchs are one of five teams nationally to have not allowed a goal in four matches and of the five teams, are the only one to be 4-0.
ODU will close out the month in Blacksburg on Thursday night facing Virginia Tech at 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
