Women's Soccer Hosts Campbell Sunday In Home Opener

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team hits the home pitch on Sunday night as they host Campbell at 6 p.m. in the home opener at the ODU Soccer Complex.
 
Old Dominion enters off a 3-0 win over George Mason on Thursday night as Ece Turkoglu, Anna Torslov and Thalia Morisi each had goals. Turkoglu added an assist along with Rhea Kijowski, Ashlynn Kuhla, Madison Micheletti and Riley Mullen. Emily Bredek made two saves en route to the clean sheet.
 
Campbell, now members of the Coastal Athletic Association after years in the Big South, opened with a 2-2 draw against former conference rival High Point on Thursday night. Kaleigh Backlund and Alyssa Tucker scored goals for the Camels who jumped out to a 2-0 lead before High Point tallied twice midway in the second half.
 
ABOUT ODU
In the 3-0 win over George Mason, the Monarchs held a 22-4 advantage in shots, 12-2 on goal and 9-0 in corners.
 
The 22 shots were the most in a game since ODU peppered Coastal Carolina with 24 shots in a 4-0 win on October 9, 2022 on Senior Day.
 
ODU has not lost in the last four meetings with Campbell going 2-0-2. The Monarchs tied Campbell in 2014 and 1-1 in 2004, after winning 3-0 in 2006 and 3-1 in 2005.
 
ABOUT CAMPBELL
Campbell returns four players who started 15 games last season as they won the Big South regular season title. The Camels were 11-3-4 in 2022 and 7-0-2 in Big South play. They dropped a semifinal match to Gardner-Webb in penalty kicks 4-3 after tying 1-1.
 
In the net, Campbell returns Stephanie Martelli and Sierra Vance who were a dynamic duo last season. Vance started seven games going 6-0-1, while Martelli had a .735 save percentage and three solo shutouts.

ODU will head to Richmond to tangle with VCU on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. The next home match will be on Sunday, Aug. 30 hosting Richmond also at 6 p.m.
