NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Field Hockey team was picked to finish second in the BIG EAST preseason poll announced on Thursday. Marlon de Bruijne was named preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Big East. Nicole Fredricks joined de Bruijne as the other Monarch on the First team All-Big East Team.
The reigning 2023 regular season BIG EAST Champions were picked behind Liberty in the preseason polls.
de Bruijne was a unanimous selection for First team All-Big East and was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year after winning the award last season. de Bruijne accumulated 14 goals, six assists and 34 points for the Monarchs last season.
Fredricks was named to the preseason All-Big East team as well. Fredricks is the captain of the team and controls the back line. She started in 16 games last season and recorded two assists for two points. She has been named to the Big East All-Conference second team in her freshman and sophomore year.
ODU opens its season on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 12 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex when they take on the Delaware Blue Hens.
