Anessa Arndt

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's soccer junior defender Anessa Arndt was named on Wednesday to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team.

Arndt was one of six ODU student-athletes who were honored by the state association. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 GPA and be a sophomore or higher in standing. Each school in the state of Virginia can nominate up to six student-athletes.

She started in all 21 matches last season picking up assists against Coastal Carolina and in the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals against Arkansas State. Arndt was a mainstay on the defensive line helping lead the Monarchs to a pair of clean sheets in the league tournament. She was also named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and is a biomedical studies major with a 4.0 grade point average from Cary, North Carolina.

"I am absolutely thrilled for Anessa to receive this accolade as she absolutely deserves it," said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. "Since the day she joined this program, she has shown her complete dedication not only to being an integral part of this soccer program, but also to her studies. She is someone who goes about everything she does with such drive, enthusiasm, and maturity and has added so much to our teams' progress both in our culture but also our on-field success. A nicer and more sincere person you could not meet, and I am just delighted for her."
